Winter Wonderland at Crabtree Nature CenterCrabtree in Snow

Check out what is happening this January.

My favorite part of winter at Crabtree Nature Center is fresh snow because that means fresh tracks. The winter sometimes seems quiet and still, without much action. However, a fresh snow reveals the flurry of activity by those animals that brave the winter chill through the tracks they leave behind. Can you guess who left the tracks pictured above? Notice the four toe prints, fused paw pad, and nail prints. These are the tracks of a lone coyote. Coyote tracks are commonly seen on our trails as canines readily uses trails and roads to travel. Next time it snows, hike our trails to see what other animals have been using the trails too!

Snowshoes! Leave tracks of your own!

Snowshoes are available when snow is 4” or greater.

Equipment is limited and is loaned with no charge on a first come, first serve basis. Driver’s license required.

Follow us on Facebook to learn about pop-up snowshoe programs when conditions allow.
