Our life experiences are the stories we share with friends and family, not just as they happen but in years to come. Dylan Ruff had such an experience resulting from his parents being the highest bidder in Countryside Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization’s (PTO) Fundraising Auction.  One item up for bid was the contribution by Barrington Hills Police Department: “A Ride to School in a Squad Car” and ‘Have Lunch the with the Chief. “

On Wednesday, May 9th this came to fruition.  Dylan (with his little sister) got a chance to check out the squad car with its flashing lights, before taking his “ride to school in a squad car.” At lunchtime, Dylan chose his friend, Tyler Fitch, to join in on the fun.  Both boys were treated to lunch at Red Robin, by Chief Rich Semelsberger and were joined by Deputy Chief Joe Colditz and Sergeant Kann.  Both Dylan and Tyler were given gift bags consisting of multiple novelty items, including a mini squad car to remember the experience. A great time was had by all!

The Countryside PTO is a Parent Teacher Organization supported by parent volunteers. Their purpose is to work in the best interest of the children, to promote understanding and cooperation between parents and teachers, and to initiate and encourage ideas and activities in the best interest of Countryside School.  The PTO sponsors a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, with the Auction being its biggest event. In past years, proceeds have funded classroom and playground equipment, literacy tools, and grounds beautification, in addition to underwriting events such as socials, assemblies, and various enrichment and reading programs.
