It’s official! Roads Posted on March 13, 2023!

Village-maintained roads are posted for reduced weight restrictions. Any vehicle, load or combination thereof that exceeds 10 tons/20,000 pounds is required to obtain an overweight permit.

Existing overweight permits expiring on or after March 13 are suspended until the weight restriction is lifted. If your transport cannot wait, follow this link to obtain a valid OW permit:  www.oxcartpermits.com.

Which roads will be affected? Check out the Road Jurisdiction Map on our website under Informational Documents:  barringtonhills-il.gov/bh-documents.

Why Do We Post the Roads?

TO PROTECT OUR ROADS.

Potholes begin after snow or rain seeps into the soil below the road surface.

The moisture freezes when temperatures drop, causing the ground to expand and push the pavement up.

As temperatures rise, the ground returns to normal level but the pavement often remains raised.  This creates a gap between the pavement and the ground below it.

When vehicles drive over this cavity, the pavement surface cracks and falls into the hollow space, leading to the birth of another pothole.
