Within the next few months, Nicor Gas will begin deployment of its Meter Modernization Project which includes the installation of a small, two-way communication device on existing natural gas meters—the meter will not be replaced.  These two-way communication devices feature state-of-the-art technology that will automatically send actual usage meter readings to Nicor Gas, helping to eliminate estimated bills. 

Nicor Gas, together with Grid One Solutions, will be working in several communities so providing exact dates may not be possible.  Grid One Solutions will have appropriate identification.  The device installation will take 10-15 minutes for most residential sized meters, and up to 30 minutes on large commercial or rotary meters. If a customer has an indoor meter, they will be contacted to schedule an appointment.
