It is with great sadness that the Village of Barrington Hills shares the news that Trustee Debra Ann Buettner passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, November 11, 2021.  Trustee Buettner, together with her husband James Hammond, was a long-time resident of Barrington Hills, who volunteered and dedicated herself unconditionally to her community.

She began her role in local government as a Zoning Board of Appeals member in 2015.  In 2019, she was elected to the Board of Trustees where she served as the Planning Committee Chairperson and Member of the Finance, Insurance and Building & Zoning Committees.  She was unanimously approved by her fellow Board of Trustees to represent the Village at Barrington Area Council of Governments’ Executive and Legislative Councils as the Village President’s alternate.

Trustee Buettner brought her experience as a tax and transactional attorney to her various roles in local government. It was her approach to gather facts and information on a given topic and explore all aspects before voting. She graced Village Hall with her bubbly personality and kind-heartedness.  She will sorely be missed. Trustee Buettner is survived by her husband James Hammond and her older brothers Kenneth, Paul and Glen.

“Deb has been a friend for a number of years.  I personally got to know her in 2015 during my first election campaign for Village Trustee. I was elated when I learned Deb decided to run in 2019 for Village Trustee, as I knew she would make an excellent Board member.  

Her heart was with the residents.  She was always willing to listen to people and constantly wore a smile.  She will definitely be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her husband, Jim, and family,” shared President Brian Cecola.

Trustee Buettner will be laid to rest at Davenport Family Funeral Home in Barrington with visitation on Saturday, November 20, from 9 AM until 11 AM. A private service will immediately follow. 

A public celebration of Debra’s life will take place at a date, time and location to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Debra’s name to the National Audubon Society.
