Arbor Day is just around the corner and timing couldn’t be better! Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago just delivered oak saplings free to our residents! Thank you MWRD!
Take advantage of April’s rains and plant a tree in observance of Arbor Day, April 26, a national day that celebrates the importance of trees.
Pull into Tom Easley Way where you’ll see them along the Public Works building. Quantities are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
MWRD provides free native tree saplings through their program, Restore the Canopy, Plant a Tree. Native trees help reduce flooding and soil erosion, improve air quality, keep neighborhoods cooler and provide a habitat for wildlife, to name a few benefits.
Download the Planting and Caring for Your Free MWRD Tree brochure here or stop at the Clerk’s office to pick up a copy.
The MWRD launched its program in 2016 to aid in managing stormwater and educating communities on the value of the tree canopy that has been depleted over the last century. Since 2016, MWRD has distributed more than 100,000 free native trees.
