Christmas Tree and String Lights Disposal

The holiday season is coming to a close. What should you do with your live Christmas Tree and broken holiday string lights?
Here are some ideas:
Some waste service providers will take your live Christmas Tree the first couple of weeks in January when put at the curb with the weekly waste. The tree should be cleaned of any decor, bags, wrap, etc., and placed next to the waste cans at the curb for pickup. Contact your provider for details.
Lake County Forest Preserves are accepting trees through February 1. The trees will be turned into mulch and used throughout the Preserves. More information can be found at lcfpd.org/holidaytree/
Algonquin Township Road District is accepting Christmas Trees through January 31 and unwanted Christmas string lights can be dropped off a their electronics shed. Questions can be directed to the Road District at 847-639-2700, ext. 6.
LRS Recycling is accepting wire string holiday lights and extension cords at their Wauconda facility: 1350 N. Old Rand Road, Monday – Friday, 8am – 4 pm.
The Village of Barrington’s Public Works Department is accepting unwanted string lights through March. There is a drop-off bin at the main entrance of the public works facility at 300 N. Raymond Avenue. Accepted for recycling are the mini-lights (or Italian lights), C7 lights, C9 lights, rope lights, LED lights, and extension cords.
