At Monday’s Board of Trustees meeting, May 23, 2022, President Brian D. Cecola presented Proclamations to two long-serving resident volunteers for their dedicated service: Mr. Patrick Hennelly and Dr. Gwynne Johnston.

For those that may not know, the Village’s Boards, Commissions and Committees are entirely comprised of non-compensated resident volunteers who dedicate their time, knowledge and expertise to uphold our Village’s Code and objectives.

Mr. Patrick Hennelly began serving our community in 2000 as a member of the Village’s Plan Commission.  In 2015, he was appointed to serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals until April 2022, serving a combined total of 22 years!

“I’m not sure I’m going to know what to do every month,” chuckled Hennelly adding “It was great.”

Hennelly thanked the Board of Trustees and shared some of his more memorable moments while on the Zoning Board, relating to the lighting ordinance.

President Cecola thanked Hennellly for his many years of service. “It’s not an easy task. It’s a lot of years and we thank you.”

Dr. Gwynne Johnston served as a Member of the Board of Health since its inception, beginning in 1994, being appointed by then-Village President, James Kempe.

In 1997, Johnston was approved by the Board of Trustees as Chairman of the Board of Health, in which he served until April 2022, a total of 28 years and three Village Presidents later! How’s that for dedication?

Dr. Johnston was instrumental in the creation, implementation and success of the Village’s semipublic water well testing program, which other area communities have replicated.

“It’s important to keep the testing going… it will serve as a baseline, fifty years from now, for water quality that we take for granted,” shared Johnston.

President Cecola extended a personal thank you for Dr. Johnston’s many hours and years of service.

These two gentlemen truly exemplify community service and dedication!  We thank you for your many years of service and dedication!
