At the May 19, 2026, Board of Trustees meeting, Police Chief Kyle Murphy proudly announced the promotions of Deputy Chief Jason Currie and Sergeant William Wojcik.

Attendance spilled into the adjacent lobby of the MacArthur Room, as family, friends, fellow Department members, retired police personnel, and representatives from neighboring law enforcement agencies gathered to celebrate the occasion. The ceremony was especially heartfelt during the traditional badge-pinning portion of the evening. Both the Deputy Chief and Sergeant selected someone special to pin their new badges onto their uniforms, creating touching moments for everyone in attendance.

SERGEANT WILLIAM WOJCIK

“It’s an exciting night for the Village Police Department,” began Chief Kyle Murphy as he introduced Sergeant William Wojcik, who joined the Department in 2021. Before his promotion to Sergeant, Wojcik served as a patrol officer, during which time he was selected to take on the additional responsibility of Department Field Training Officer. Chief Murphy highlighted Wojcik’s professional accomplishments, distinguished service, and proven skills and attributes throughout his tenure, concluding his remarks by stating:

“In Barrington Hills, William has gained the reputation of being a dedicated and knowledgeable officer,” said Chief Murphy. “I am proud to announce William Wojcik as our next Police Sergeant.”

Following the administration of his oath of office, Sgt. Wojcik was joined by his fiancée and son, who proudly pinned his new badge.

DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE JASON CURRIE

Chief Murphy then introduced the Village’s new Deputy Chief of Police, Jason Currie, sharing his impressive career history and accomplishments, recognizing his 16 years of dedicated service to the Village and his commitment to officer training and professional development.

“Throughout his career, Jason has exhibited professionalism, leadership, and a genuine desire to improve this department, support our members, and strengthen our ability to provide quality service to our residents,” said Chief Murphy. “I am proud to announce Jason Currie as our next Deputy Chief.”

Deputy Chief Currie’s wife, Elizabeth, had the honor of pinning on his new badge following the administration of his oath of office.

Upon the conclusion of the final oath, the room and adjoining lobby erupted into applause and cheers of support.

Deputy Chief Currie took a few moments to express his appreciation to everyone who helped him along his journey.

“I didn’t get here by myself,” he said, acknowledging his fellow Department members, Village leadership, current and retired officers, mentors, and law enforcement colleagues who supported him throughout his career. He thanked President Brian Cecola, the Board of Trustees, and Police Chief Murphy, and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving Barrington Hills in his new role.

Deputy Chief Currie also recognized the influence of family, mentors, and fellow officers throughout his career. He spoke about the importance of building upon the strong foundation already established to continue the Department’s commitment to providing high-quality service to the community.

CLOSING REMARKS

President Cecola concluded the ceremony by sharing remarks on behalf of the Village and Board of Trustees.

“On behalf of the Village of Barrington Hills and all of the Trustees, we couldn’t be more proud of you,” said President Cecola. “The entire Village supports you. Chief, you’re doing a great job. We want to thank all of the men and women of this Police Department, all the retirees, and the families who have made this possible. The camaraderie of the Department is truly special…Thank you for all you do.”

Witnessing the ceremony and the support shown by current and retired Department members, family, friends, and others in attendance, one could not help but feel proud of these two individuals who have taken an oath to serve and protect our community.
