Barrington’s White House hosts virtual cultural events

Barrington’s White House is presenting another slate of free cultural events for the online series, Virtual Arts and Culture.

Join virtually at 1 and 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, for the inaugural “Cook Along With Me” series, which kicks off with Julia Noack, head chef for Wild Asparagus Catering.

Follow along with Chef Julia from the kitchen at Barrington’s White House, where you will learn to make the vegetable phyllo purse with basil cream sauce, a dish known long ago as “Beggar’s Purse.”

Ready for some jazz? Enjoy the premiere of the first Jazz Cabaret Night at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13. Now’s your chance to watch local jazz enthusiasts perform in an “open mic” setting during the new second Thursdays Jazz Cabaret series.

Brought to you by a generous donation from the Barrington Area Community Foundation, local talent will step to the stage after a brief rehearsal and perform their favorite jazz tunes with the popular Marianne Kim Jazz Duo.

If you are a jazz musician interested in performing, contact Rollin Potter at rrpotter@outlook.com.

The Barrington Cultural Commission is also sponsoring a Poetry Reading, a program of 10 poems by local poets, aired from Barrington’s White House at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. Interested poets should submit an original poem by Monday, Aug. 3, for a chance to read your poem at Barrington’s White House, where you will be filmed within guidelines for COVID-19 restrictions.

To view these free virtual events, register at www.barringtonswhitehouse.com/events. After registering, you will receive a link to watch the livestream.

Barrington’s White House is at 145 W. Main St. in downtown Barrington. Cultural programming at the White House is underwritten in part by generous sponsors, including the Willow Springs Charitable Trust, Kim Duchossois, Mary B. Galvin, Mr. and Mrs. Earle Combs, Barrington Area Community Foundation, Barrington Bank and Trust, Northern Trust, Barrington 220, and Quintessential Barrington Magazine.
