Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison is sponsoring Virtual Outdoors Week!


This year’s event is like 2020 with some exciting updates — the Fishing Derby is back! Join Commissioner Morrison throughout the week of Monday, June 14 to Saturday, June 19 as for incredible opportunities to connect with nature!

Register now for a week full of fun ending with a fishing derby at Busse Lake. Registration is required for fishing and it is FREE.

Monday, June 14th at 12 PM: Explore the Forest Preserves

LIVE on Facebook – Join me and representatives from Crabtree Nature Center and Resource Management as they share how you can enjoy the nature center in person as well as learn about the Forest Preserve’s Fish ID and monofilament recycling programs. There will also be group guided hikes that you can sign up for!

Tuesday, June 15th at 12 PM: Bringing the Zoo to You

LIVE on Facebook – Join me and representatives from Brookfield Zoo as we visit their Giraffes and Penguins during feeding times! Their education team will also be there to share about some virtual community programs such as internships and high school projects.


Wednesday, June 16th at 12 PM: Budburst: Tour of the Prairie

LIVE on Facebook – Join me, President Preckwinkle, and representatives from the Chicago Botanic Garden as we walk through their prairie exhibit and learn about local plants and collect data. We’ll also get a glimpse at their upcoming art exhibit: “Picturing the Prairie”.


Thursday, June 17th at 12 PM: Conservation and Habitat Restoration

LIVE on Facebook – Join me and representatives from the Shedd Aquarium to learn about some local conservation efforts studying amphibian response to habitat restoration in the Forest Preserves of Cook County, highlight local animals you can see out in nature, and what you can do to help.


Saturday, June 19th from 9 AM to 12 PM: Fishing Derby

IN-PERSON at Grove 25 in the Busse Woods Forest Preserve — Join me and representatives from several community groups and organizations as we celebrate another Busse Lake Fishing Derby! Registration is required for all anglers. All experience levels are welcome and for this weekend only there is no fishing license required. Prizes will be awarded for several categories. I can’t wait to see you in person!
