#BigProps to VBHPD’s Sgt. David Kann and Officer Brian Baird for their assistance in yesterday’s horse predicament!

Firefly, an American Paint Horse, who is affectionately known as “Phoofie” found herself in a precarious situation. “I noticed she was down which is not normal for horses to do,” said resident Sarah Quinn. She called her son-in-law to help raise Firefly and they quickly discovered they needed additional assistance.

Quinn called the Village’s Police Department (VBHPD).  Sergeant David Kann and Officer Brian Baird arrived on the scene, assessed the situation and called in the necessary resources.

“We were overcome with emotion. It was so nice to have the community support you. It was wonderful,” said Quinn.

In addition to VBHPD, assistance was provided by Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, Cuba Township Road District, Hooved Animal Rescue and Protection Society (HARPS), and Firefly’s veterinarian and neighbors. “Due to the coordinated effort, the horse was uninjured which was nice to see,” said Kann.

After Firefly’s vet assessed it was safe, straps and a forklift were used to raise her. “Everyone did such a good job. It turned out great. It was incredible,” said Quinn.

Gotta love a happy ending!
