President Brian Cecola and Trustee Jessica Hoffmann recently represented our Village with distinction at Barrington Area Council of Governments’ Pitch Day at Barrington School District 220’s Prairie & Station Middle Schools, providing valuable insights on local government to future constituents.
It was very rewarding to witness the students’ enthusiasm for sharing their concerns and wanting to learn how to find solutions. They are our future leaders, and I am happy to have been able to share my knowledge and experiences with them.–President Brian Cecola
D220 7th-grade history students presented their “pitch” to local government representatives, sharing ideas or concerns about improvements they would like to see in their communities. Topics varied, from infrastructure, such as roads and sidewalks, to policies like daylight saving time and class scheduling.
Local officials provided guidance on how to present ideas or concerns so they could be heard and addressed by the appropriate governmental bodies. The goal of Pitch Day was to help students learn how local governments operate, how to effectively communicate with them, and how the students can help improve their communities.
Hearing the 7th graders’ ideas on how to make our ‘Barrington’ villages a better place always leaves me feeling inspired about the trajectory of our students. It is also exciting to watch their minds click onto how local government operates; hopefully inspiring them to be future leaders in government.–Trustee Jessica Hoffmann
Pitch Day highlights the value of connecting students with their local government, fostering both understanding and inspiration. We look forward to seeing how these future leaders will continue to shape and strengthen our communities.
