Bacoa, Barrington Council on Aging, is offering older adults assistance with filing income tax returns with tax aids through AARP, beginning in February. The assistance, offered through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program, helps low- to moderate-income taxpayers file state and federal returns.

Trained AARP tax volunteers will assist with completing and filing returns using a combination of virtual and in-person appointments, following COVID-19 safety precautions. For additional details and to make an appointment, please call Carol at Bacoa at (847) 381-5030. APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED.

Appointments will be available through April and are first come first served. Appointments will take place at the Parish Center at St. Anne’s Church in Barrington at 120 Ela Street in Barrington.  At the appointment you will have a brief Covid screening, then your documents will be scanned and your identity verified by tax aid.  Documents will be returned to you and a tax aid will call you with any questions at a later date.  Each appointment is a 15 minutes time frame, no exceptions. You will not be able to meet with a tax aid in person during your appointment to discuss your taxes.  They will call you.

Bacoa promotes vibrant, healthy aging by providing activities, education, and support to older adults, families and caregivers. Established in 1984, Bacoa serves approximately 1,500 clients annually in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
