Fire engines, food trucks, station tours, raffle prizes, a bounce house, and public safety demonstrations are just a few of the attractions residents of all ages will enjoy at the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District’s 2019 Open House.

This year’s free event will take place Saturday, August 24th, 11 am – 3 pm, at the BCFPD’s Lake Barrington station (22222 North Pepper Road).

The Open House is an extension of the BCFPD’s community outreach efforts, designed to strengthen firefighters’ relationships with the residents they serve, Fire Chief Jim Kreher said.

“We view ourselves as more than public safety providers.  We are a community-based organization dedicated to the well-being of area residents, businesses, and those who visit,” Chief Kreher explained.  “The Open House presents an opportunity to meet the people we serve in a relaxed, fun-filled setting.  It’s also a chance for them to learn more about us and the services we provide,” he added.

Open House highlights will include:

Touch-a-Truck – Explore the BCFPD’s emergency service vehicles: fire engines, ambulances, water transports (tenders), and more.

Station Tours – Go behind the scenes to see where firefighters live while on duty and learn what it’s like to serve in today’s fire service.

Live Burn Demonstration (12:30 pm) – Witness firsthand how fire sprinkler systems contain dangerous fires and limit property damage (and injury) during a side-by-side controlled burn.

Blood Drive (9 am – 3 pm) – Give the “gift of life” at an onsite blood drive, organized by Vitalant (formerly LifeSource).

Food Trucks – Enjoy a wide range of menu selections available for purchase from Puff Truck Pizza and Sweet Memories (Good Humor ice cream).

Antique Fire Trucks – View a selection of vintage equipment that offers a glimpse of the fire service’s rich history.

Car Seat Checks – Onsite technicians will ensure your child’s car seat is properly installed.

Raffle – Enter a drawing for the chance to win a junior firefighter uniform.

Bounce House for kids, provided by Canlan Sportsplex Lake Barrington.

Informational Tables staffed by representatives from the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance (IFSA), Northwest Central Dispatch System (NWCDS), and Verizon.
