Today, Monday, October 14, is Columbus Day, a federal national holiday, commemorating the exploration and discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus in October, 1492. Due to the declared federal holiday, some governmental offices will be closed. Village Hall and Police Administration offices are open.
The State of Illinois recognizes Indigenous People’s Day on the last Monday in September–a day that celebrates the contributions of the American Indians, Native Alaskans and Native Hawaiians to American history and culture.
