It is with a heavy heart that the Village announces the passing of former Barrington Hills Police Officer Jeremy Hensler.  On January 23, 2024, Officer Hensler lost his battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  In 2018, Officer Hensler transitioned to disability to access the care he needed to fight his terminal illness.

Hensler was a 13-year veteran of the Barrington Hills Police Department (BHPD). He served six years as a police officer in Richardson, Texas before moving to Illinois with his wife and daughter.  During his time with BHPD, he was assigned to the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) Emergency Services Team (EST), where he served as a sniper for 12 years. Officer Hensler was also a 10-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps in which he served as an infantry rifleman in the 1st Battalion 9th Regiment at Camp Pendleton, California.

“I was saddened to hear that Officer Hensler lost his battle with ALS. He was dedicated to serving our community and a true ambassador of his sworn oath to serve and protect. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all those whose lives he touched,” said Village President Brian Cecola.

The Hensler Family appreciates the support received from both the Barrington Hills and law enforcement communities and issued the following message:

We would like to express our profound gratitude for everyone’s generous donations. The outpouring of support made it possible for Jeremy to afford crucial medications, essential treatments, dedicated caregivers, and even a final memorable vacation with his daughter. The costs associated with ALS care are substantial, and without the collective kindness and generosity of each donor, this would not have been achievable. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making a significant and positive impact on Jeremy’s life during this incredibly challenging time.
